He graduated form Ankara University Medical School in 1978 and gained his medical degree in Internal Medicine and Hematology in the same school. He became professor in Medicine in 1996 and worked in M.D. Anderson Cancer Center BMT and Therapeutic apheresis units in the same year. He is one of the founders of the Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation program in Turkey. He established the Turkish Apheresis Society in year 2000 and was the President of the Turkish Society of Hematology in 2 terms. He also served as the president of 30th World Congress of International Society of Hematology (ISH) and 15th Congress of European Society for Haemapheresis (ESFH). He took an active role in the EHA CME accreditation program and received the provider status in Turkey and is currently working as a member of ECAH Advisory Board. He is involved in the Joint Accreditation Committee of International Society for Cellular Therapy – European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (JACIE) from the beginning and now serving as an inspector and national representative of Turkey. Dr. Ilhan is the chairman of Ministry of Health Bone Marrow Transplantation Scientific Advisory Board and is also the President of Turkish Bone Marrow Foundation. He is a member of EHA, EBMT, ASH, ASBMT, IBMTR, ASCO, ISH, ISCT and ESFH. He has authored or co-authored more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and is on the editorial board of Transfusion and Apheresis Science and Therapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis. His research interests are in stem cell transplantation, regenerative medicine, photopheresis, adoptive immunotherapy and hematological malignancies. Publications: 1.
